"Incredible view, huge comfortable rooms, great staff, good price!!"
Fortunately a friend of mine who lives in the area recommended the Suite Duomo - easily the best value and unquestionably the best views in town. I traveled with a large group and most stayed at other local hotels on "quaint" streets - none had decent views, and many were kept awake by mopeds, auto traffic, and echoing voices in the narrow streets all night long. I had the privilege of staying at Suite Duomo in Ferrara for 4 weeks this September, so I think I can give a decent perspective. The hotel is in the heart of Ferrara which is pedestrian/bicycle access only, has a direct view of the stunning cathedral (Duomo), the main town square, and the medieval castle. Being in the town center definitely has its advantages. There are ample restaurants ("Woodpecker", "Este Bar", and the "Hosteria" next to the castle, were among my many favorites), enotecas (wine bars - "Weinstube" in the alley across from the castle was my favorite) - and pubs within a very short walking distance ("Massimos" was packed, and "Mackays" pub had English ales, English speaking bartenders and occasional live bands). On Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays there were clothing and craft markets and occasionally antique markets in the square below. One evening there was even a symphony orchestra performance with incredible opera singers in the square - for free. On Sunday mornings there were groups of local medieval performers parading, dancing, twirling flags and playing instruments - easily viewable from my room's huge windows. The hotel also features a terrace with the best possible view in Ferrara of the central historic district. You actually sit atop the arched overpass into the main square, next to the clock tower, with views in both directions of the main pedestrian route - a people watching bonanza! The hotel also offers bikes for rent for only 5 Euro a day - well worth it for the awesome ride around the medieval wall that encircles the city. The rooms were enormous, especially for Italy, and well furnished (since I was staying for so long, I got to pick from 3 rooms and actually picked the "smallest"). The furnishings all look new as do the rooms. I had a brand new Jacuzzi shower, a small kitchen which was perfect for cooking my meals, refrigerating drinks, vegetables from the market, and my next meal or two. The decor was elegant, albeit modern, and the rooms in the suites were air conditioned. The cleaning staff kept my room in perfect shape every day - I was so impressed that I left the maids a 20 Euro tip upon checkout. If I have to offer criticisms, it is that only 75% of the rooms face the main square with the spectacular view - make sure you ask for a room with a view (I don't believe they cost extra). My biggest gripe was that wireless internet access was relatively expensive - I wound up using the nearby internet cafe for much less. The hotel managers were genuinely friendly and always helpful - they told me of their plans to expand their indoor breakfast/bar area (I ate breakfast and drank my delicious cappuccinos and espressos only out on the terrace because the weather was perfect in September) with great views of the Duomo and main square, starting in November 2005. I plan to return to Suite Duomo next spring, this time with my family, for another extended stay in this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site. For what its worth, this complete stranger highly recommends this fantastic hotel in Ferrara!

"Wonderful experience"
The Hotel Suite Duomo is a charming place to stay. The personnel is extremely helpful and friendly. Everyone was courteous. The apartment was modern and clean with many amenities. The apartment had a living area, kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom. The location could not have been better. You are in the heart of the city. There are many places to dine within walking distance. Since it is a pedestrian only part of the city, it is pleasantly quiet. No annoying traffic noise like vespas. Parking is inexpensive and about 3 walking blocks away. Breakfast is served on the roof top terrace, which is very pleasant. I would recomment The Hotel Suite Duomo and would not hesitate to stay again.

"Fun, contemporary, and spacious"
While we enjoyed the many historic properties we stayed at during our recent trip to nothern Italy, this aggressively contemporary hotel was a pleasant break. Pluses included a spacious two-room suite (ideal if you're traveling wtih children), Jacuzzi water jets in the shower, kitchen facilities, and a superb location in the heart of the old part of the city with great views of the cathedral. The undulating hallways displaying contemporary artwork made an even bigger interior design statement than the furnishings of the room. (The pictures at the web site really capture the place.) Breakfast benefited both from a small terrace overlooking the cathedral square and a solid array of food options. If you are driving, as we were, an inexpensive and large public parking lot is a very few blocks away and you can drop your bags off at the hotel if you llike. I'll certainly stay there again if I'm lucky enough to get back to Ferrara (the aptly named city of bikes).
